The Zones feature on the Datacake platform is designed to offer users a streamlined asset tracking management solution. This feature enables users to manage devices based on their locations by defining geographic zones. It supports a wide range of tracking devices, including cellular, LoRaWAN, and Sigfox, making it highly versatile for various use cases.
Geofencing Capabilities: Users can create zones (geofences) that track when devices enter or exit specific areas.
Device Tracking: Works with various types of asset tracking devices and connectivity.
Real-time Monitoring: Provides real-time data and historical insights into the location of devices.
Automation and Alerts: Allows for automation using the rule engine to trigger notifications based on device location.
The following video demonstrates how to utilize Data Cake's zones feature for asset tracking using various tracking devices. we showcase setting up zones, configuring alerts, and utilizing the rule engine for notifications.
Viewers will learn how to create zones, set up alerts for zone entry/exit, and customize notifications based on device movements.
A tracking device that records location data.
The device's location must be configured with the role "Device Location."
In the device configuration or template, ensure that the "Device Location" role is attached to the location field.
This is crucial for using the map and zone features on Datacake.

In the sidebar of your workspace, select the Zones option to access the feature.
The Zones Overview provides key performance indicators (KPIs), such as:
Number of zones.
Devices within zones.
Most and least crowded zones.
Using the Rule Engine, you can set up notifications based on zone activity.
You can trigger alerts for the following events:
Zone Entry: When a device enters a zone.
Zone Exit: When a device leaves a zone.
Length of Stay: The time a device spends in a zone.
Accessing the Rule Engine:
From the sidebar, go to the Rule Engine and click Add Rule.
Selecting Triggers:
You can trigger alerts based on zone entry, zone exit, or length of stay.
Example: Set up an alert for both zone entry and exit.
Setting Up Actions:
You can choose between several actions for alerts:
Email notifications.
Webhooks.
SMS alerts.
Downlinks.
Example: Send an email when a device exits or enters a zone, including device details and the time of the event.
Using Tags for Filtering:
You can filter which zones trigger rules by using tags, enabling you to customize alerts for different groups of zones.
Example: Use a tag such as "home" for personalized notifications.
